6/7 October 1940: The London Underground on this day 70 years ago

Thirtieth day/night of the London Blitz.

At 11:35 on Sunday 6th October 1940, Central line services were restored between Wood Lane and Queens Road (now Queenway) station, and between Wood Lane and Ealing Broadway at 13:47.[1]

Tooting Broadway station was closed due to a burst water main, but reopened at 07:25 on the 7th.[2]

Northern line services between Camden Town and Golders Green - disrupted since 27/28 September (see here) - were resumed on the morning of the 7th.[2][3]

At 08:00 on the 7th, the following working conditions were reported:
Metropolitan line
No services Farringdon Street to Moorgate - unsafe buildings.

East London line
Closed since 07/09 - bomb damage to Surrey Docks, hope to re-open for freight shortly.[4]

Unexploded bombs
1. Neasden Depot 27/09 - prevents use of south end of yard.[5]
